Hearing Proximity

I'm looking at the interface for dealing with HearNoise and NearPickup events,
and I'm a bit disappointed. I can tell the type, source and rotation towards a noise,
but I have no concept of distance or volume.

I would like the bot to respond to sounds that reasonably close (or loud), but not visible,
so that if someone is shooting at it from behind but hasn't hit it yet, it will know to turn around
and fire back. However, without any notion of distance or volume, the response ends up
being overly sensitive. Sounds seem to echo through the hallways, and a lot of the time
it looks like the bot is turning to respond to sounds that are far away and on the other sides
of walls or even floors.

Is there any way around this?
